The Osprey/Nokomis area is the transition between Sarasota and Venice. Generally left out of the investment of new development dollars, this area is seeing a surge in popularity and new housing opportunities are coming off the ground.
There is a great deal of re-development along the lengthy bay front, as with all other areas of the community that are blessed with this spectacular amenity. Many homes have these views, as well as a number of newer condominium complexes. This is the access for the exclusive Casey Key.
The Bay Street Village and Town Center, a planned $150-million, 41-acre complex of shops, offices, restaurants and homes is slated to begin and new hotels and shopping are planned for the southern access to Casey Key, bringing a new vibrancy to this strip of US 41 (Tamiami Trail).
Bertha Palmer, a pioneer of development for this part of Sarasota at the turn of the century, called Spanish Point her home. This now public area offers tours and hosts many events - including frequent weddings.
The State of Florida has a very large protected area of land, Oscar Sherer State Park, that is set aside for natural activities and camping.
